Pastor Dan,
Thank you. All that you said in this sermon is true(glory to God). My father raised us to know about this hedge of protection and its purposes. I can testify to the use of it in my own life. I consider it God’s mercy and grace, keeping us from what is taboo, knowing the greater threat that lies beyond. The account that you read is a perfect portrayal in so many ways; and though it hurts, God’s chastisement is a sweet aroma for refining, and much appreciated and preferred over the the bitter end that comes with disobedience. Though forgiveness may be given in the end, the consequences of going astray are often devastating to many. I thank God for the rod of correction-sometimes physically painful, sometimes humiliating, always meant for humbling. ~Hebrews 12:5-13 . . .”My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by Him; for those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He receives.” It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness. All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. Therefore, strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble, and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed. ~I’m grateful for the added healing! Also Proverbs 28:13-14, 18,25-26, and Proverbs 29:1.
Recently I have had doubts and questions come poking and prodding from some well-meaning family. Knowing that the remarks were not according to God’s point of view I felt discouraged but was thankful for the seemingly little and simple truths He gave me for a response. Looking back on the conversation I see how big and strong the truth is and that it was my only help out of the confusion. Tonight I sensed God’s strong and firm, but soft voice telling me that I am His, and that I do not belong to them. I do not need to worry about heeding all of the things they say. He is my Father, and as long as I obey Him, I am okay. ~Amen! Praise God!! . . . and goodnight. : }
~He’s the best daddy there is, and I’m thankful for Him!!
