Final Exams! I imagine most of us cringe at even the thought having to do final exams. They can be time consuming, brain exhausting, emotionally unnerving, and physically upsetting…they should be outlawed! However, final exams do have a purpose. They REVEAL: a) whether or not you paid attention in class, b) what you know, c) how much you remembered and retained d) how much you really understand and, e) how well you listened to your teacher. No wonder we don’t like them!
What about the followers of Jesus? How well did they do in the last few months of Jesus’s earthly ministry during their “final exams”? In short, some passed with flying colors, and others failed with dark shades of gray. For Martha and Mary, the final exam was a lot harder than they ever expected (today’s sermon). As we follow the Rabbi on the narrow road to His death and resurrection, let’s pay attention class, and listen attentively to our Teacher. Our eternal state will be affected by what we Believe.
